Celebrating the Power of Non-Profits: International Day of Charity

What is International Day of Charity?

Established by the United Nations, the International Day of Charity on September 5th is dedicated to celebrating and promoting acts of charity worldwide.

It's a special day for all of us in the non-profit sector. Today commemorates Mother Teresa and her extensive support of charitable causes and highlights the ongoing efforts to alleviate suffering.

Charity is undoubtedly a gesture as ancient as humanity itself. Reaching out to those less fortunate and helping lift them up through various means of support is one of the most liberating things we can do as humans.

This day is about giving, yes, but it's also about raising awareness and education regarding global issues.

Every action, no matter how big or small, can spread joy and kindness far beyond its initial impact. Today, we ask ourselves: how can we collectively contribute to improving the world through generosity and solidarity?

The Zen Way

September 5th allows us to reflect on and celebrate the essence of our work and our commitment to ethical, balanced, and intuitive fundraising.

Since 2001, our face-to-face (F2F) campaigns have made significant global contributions, creating authentic and lasting connections between donors and causes.

We are proud of our 70 years of combined experience, having previously worked in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand, and North America. Our active campaigns are now in the UK.

Our operations create an impact that resounds with both our charity partners and their supporters.

We provide opportunities for people to meaningfully support global causes, reinforcing that every contribution makes a difference. Our dedication to continuous improvement and adapting to the needs of our charity partners and their supporters makes us a leader in the field.

Zen-novation: A Data-Driven Approach

This year, we have embraced current technologies and data analytics to refine our fundraising strategies in an era where data is paramount.

In 2023, the UK alone witnessed approximately £13.9 billion in donations, clearly demonstrating the public’s commitment to charitable causes.

Our investment in data and AI tools has revolutionised how we connect potential donors with the charities that resonate most deeply with their values and interests.

Understanding detailed demographics and supporter behaviours allows us to tailor our approaches and engage with individuals effectively.

We understand that people aged 45–64 are the most likely to donate to charity, while those aged 16–24 are the least likely. Our primary focus is on donors over 25 years old and in employment.

We also promote deserving causes that are favoured in terms of support. Animal welfare is the most prevalent, with 27% of donors giving to this cause in the UK, followed by support for children or young people (24%) and medical research (22%).

We ensure that our interactions are not only more targeted but also more meaningful. This strategic use of information supports our goal of empowering long-term relationships between charities and their supporters, enhancing satisfaction and long-term engagement.

The Importance of Charity in the Modern World

Charity undoubtedly plays a vital role in our society by addressing the myriad challenges various populations worldwide face.

Charities stand on the front lines in the fight against poverty, injustice, and disaster. The International Day of Charity reminds us of the collective power of generosity and how it can transform the world.

At Zen Fundraising, we see this day as a reminder of our responsibility and commitment to supporting these vital efforts.

It is a day to celebrate the impact of our work and the incredible contributions of our team members, donors, and charity partners. As we reflect on the success of our campaigns and the real difference they make, we are reminded why we continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of our work.
